A "hoedown" is a Western American dance form closely associated with a jig, reel or clog dance, performed traditionally as fiddle tunes in the bright, energetic and upbeat style often found in the pulse of bluegrass music. This delightful piece provides a tuneful and rhythmic representation of this music for concert band. Commissioned by the North Platte High School Band, this outstanding ensemble has consistently received superior rankings for all their wind groups, including first place (Marching Band, Concert Band and Jazz Ensemble) at the Cotton Bowl Band contest in Dallas, Texas. The Marching Band was recently selected to represent the State of Nebraska at the 2014 Memorial Day Parade to be held in Washington, D.C.
